WHAT IS APD CITIZENS ACADEMY?

The Anderson Police Department Citizens Academy is a 10-week program designed to provide community residents with first-hand information about how their police department operates and why. Participation in the CPA requires a commitment of one night a week for 10 weeks, with classes meeting each Tuesday night from 6 to 8pm.All classes are held in the City, unless otherwise specified, and are taught by the Command Staff or state-certified law enforcement instructors.

The Citizen Police Academy provides an opportunity for citizens to learn firsthand about police operations. Through a series of lectures, field trips, and simulated activities, citizens are provided training similar to that of an actual police officer. The Academy is of benefit to the community and the department because it builds relationships and creates a cadre of citizens who are better informed about the reality of police work.
