Complaint Form
It is the policy of the Anderson Police Department to ensure that integrity is maintained through an internal system. Complaints will be investigated in an impartial manner. If the matter is determined to be criminal in nature, it will be reported to the appropriate agency. If the complaint is to be handled internally by the Internal Affairs Division you will be notified by mail of the final disposition of the matter. If the case is sustained, you will not be notified of the disciplinary action(s) taken against the employee. This action is a personnel matter, not public information.
If you feel that your rights have been violated and you would like to file a complaint against an employee of the Anderson Police Department, please contact the Internal Affairs Division. You can be assured that the Anderson Police Department will not tolerate any misconduct on the part of an Anderson Police Department employee. Any fictitious or misleading complaints against an employee may be subject to Criminal and/or Civil prosecution under section 16-9-30 of the South Carolina Code of Laws.
A complaint can be filed with Internal Affairs in the following ways:
Go to the Anderson Police Department and request to speak with an internal affairs investigator or the shift supervisor
Call the Internal Affairs Office at 864-231-2288.
Write a letter to the attention of either the Chief of Police or the Internal Affairs Division at Anderson Police Department, 401 South Main Street, Anderson, SC 29624

Inspector Robert P. Smith joined the Anderson Police Department in 2010. He was previously employed with the Spartanburg Public Safety Police Department for approximately 14 years and the United States Border Patrol for a brief period. He also leads the Polygraph Department and conducts polygraph exams in the areas of criminal investigation, and pre-employment screening. Smith earned a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies Degree from Limestone College in 2000 and a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice from Boston University in 2006. He is also 1996 graduate of the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.
