TACTICAL ENTRY/ACTIVE SHOOTER SEMINAR: Anderson Police Department, in partnership with the Blue Line Survival Training Group, was honored to host a seminar on tactical entry/active shooter, March 17-18, 2012, at Westside Community Center. View the photo slideshow.

This foundational program consisted of CQB training, tactical thinking and teamwork drills. It was designed for all street level officers but in the past has been presented to numerous tactical/SWAT teams as well.

This flexible system of room-clearing techniques was taught to small groups down to just a two-person team. They taught proven tactics which can be used by any number of personnel in any type of structure, which is the reality of what officers will be confronted with. Elements of dynamic entry, stealth search and active shooter scenarios were addressed in this program. Students were put "on the same page" as far as to their approach and concepts to clearing any type of structure. Officers gained confidence not only in their abilities but those of their co-workers.

This dynamic hands-on class was taught by Mike Willis and David Hinners from Blue Line Survival. The instructors traveled to Anderson from Kansas to provide this class. Participating in the class was the Anderson Police Department, United States Army MPs, Spartanburg Public Safety, Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, SLED, West Pelzer Police Department, Greenville Technical College Public Safety, SC State Constables, Ninety Six Police Department, Simpsonville Police Department, Kershaw County Sheriff's Office and Newberry County Sheriff's Office.

Activities through the week included a luncheon provided by Anderson University Command College and a meet-and-greet at the Holiday Inn.

Command Institute students were engaged in such topics as preparing and testing for command, leading a new command, leading change, organizational culture, surviving and succeeding as a policy executive, audits and controls, vicarious liability, and establishing a leadership legacy.
